Police, police everywhere (but not a stripper in sight)

So apparently I move from one apartment building that gets invaded by the SWAT team to another with high drama! Natalie and I went to RPM last night at Gold’s, and we’re driving home and find that our street is completely taped off about two blocks from our house. We can’t quite see what’s going on, but there are a bunch of cops, and I see what looks like a bumper on the ground. It seems like a car accident, but strange because they shut the whole street down, and there seem to be a lot of cops for one accident.

We take a detour around the closed road, and pull into our building, and find fifteen cop cars pulled up in our building! (Yes, Natalie counted. Freak.) The place is crawling with cops, and not just Costa Mesa ones - we see Irvine and Fountain Valley (nearby suburbs) as well! There are even cop doggies, and there are helicopter/s (not sure how many or whether it’s the one) circling above our building!

So we talk to the cops and are like uh, can we actually go into the building? And they’re like, “What building are you in?” When we tell them L, they’re like “Oh you’re probably okay.” (Probably - ?!)  We ask them what’s going on, and they say they’re looking for a “bad guy” (c’mon guys, I know we look 12 but really!) for a hit and run. Two and two together - hit and run was up the street where they closed the road.

We park the car, and find like six cops congregated in the building next to ours!! Sure makes ya feel safe! So we ask these cops whether we’re okay to go into our building, and they ask if we’re coming home or leaving, and ask if they can check our apartment before we go in. (Sure! Go for your life.) Apparently, of course, this requires five cops to check the place. No sign of any “bad guys” so we’re all good, but Natalie did find it quite amusing that they pulled aside the curtain and checked her shower!!

Anyway, eventually all the noise stops (i.e. the choppers etc) and it seems like either they gave up or found the guy. That said, sure seems like a lot of cops for a hit and run …?

So that’s the drama from Casa de Crazy for a Tuesday night … and Matthew missed it all!!
